The Type Cube
3D Typography
This practical research project was born through my own curiosity; as I wondered if a typeface could fit inside of a cube. The first set of 3D printed letters failed to interlock but with the flat designs I created a series of prints, some of which were exhibited in a gallery on Stokes Croft in Bristol.
The Type Cube
3D Typography
This practical research project was born through my own curiosity; as I wondered if a typeface could fit inside of a cube. The first set of 3D printed letters failed to interlock but with the flat designs I created a series of prints, some of which were exhibited in a gallery on Stokes Croft in Bristol
Initial sketches of the cube, I used multiple sheets of tracing paper to design each letterform in a way that visualised the 3D cube shape
I was then able to vectorise this to have a first glimpse at how this may look
The final cube build inside Rhino 9 and the first failed attempt at printing the letters (the precision of the 3D print was not detailed enough to allow the shapes to interlock)
